Uchellu, also known as Gurellu in Kannada and Khurasni in Marathi, refers to Niger seeds (botanical name: Guizotia abyssinica). These small, glossy black seeds are commonly used in North Karnataka and Maharashtrian cuisine to make chutney powders, spice mixes, and as a flavoring ingredient in various dishes.
